APPLICATIONS

Please have a specific cat or dog in mind before submitting an adoption application. While you may submit your application prior to meeting the animal, please note:

  • Submitting an application does not place the pet on hold and does not guarantee you will be first in line for adoption .
  • Once you have met the animal and notified the Front Desk staff of your submitted online application—or provided a paper application in person—the animal will be marked as “Pending Application” and placed on hold while your application is processed.
Eligibility & Application Period
  • You must be 18 years or older to adopt.
  • Applications are valid for 30 days and will be discarded after that time.
  • If you do not visit the shelter to meet the animal within 48 hours of submitting an online application, your application will be discarded.
Required Information

Your application must include:

  • Three personal references (non-relatives who do not live with you).
  • Landlord contact information or a copy of your building’s pet policy (if you rent).
  • Veterinary information for any cats or dogs currently in your home.
Pet Care Requirements
  • All pets in your home must be spayed/neutered and up to date on distemper, Bordetella, and rabies vaccinations. This applies to cats as well, even if they are indoors only.
  • If you are applying for a dog adoption and currently own a dog, you must bring your dog for a “meet and greet” to ensure compatibility.
Understanding Pet Statuses on Our Website

Please review the descriptions below to understand what each availability status, commonly found listed beside an animal’s name or ID number, means before applying.

Coming Soon!

These animals are in the shelter but are not yet ready to meet the public.

Important:

  • These pets are not available for applications, reservations, or waitlists.
  • Availability dates may change .
  • To find out when a pet becomes available, check our website regularly or contact the Front Desk for updates.

Temporarily Unavailable

These animals are currently in the shelter or foster care but cannot be visited for a period of time. Reasons may vary. Once the status is removed, the pet will be available for visits and applications again.

Pending Application!

These animals have one active application, and the applicant has already met them. However, we accept one backup application in case the first does not proceed.

  • First application = first in line
  • Second application = second in line

Max Applications!

These animals have two active applications, and both applicants have met them.

  • They are no longer available for visits or applications.
  • No waitlists will be kept.

Approved Application!

These animals already have an adopter with an approved application and are likely scheduled to go home soon.

They are not available for visits or new applications.
